How Dormaahene’s Ashanti wife’s stern warning to him influenced his ceasefire regarding public outbursts

The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, has disclosed that his wife, who hails from the Ashanti Region, warned him against making any controversial remarks during a recent public event.

The revelation was made during a function organized by the Bono traditional chiefs on August 10, 2024, where the Dormaahene donated GH¢700,000 to support the Bono Development Fund.

According to the Dormaahene, prior to attending the event, his wife cautioned him to be mindful of his words, stressing that if he made any comments likely to generate controversy, he would face consequences for an entire week.

This warning, he said, made him reconsider his usual approach to public speaking on subjects concerning the Ashanti Region.

“As I am about to speak, people are saying that I might say certain things to generate controversies. But today, as I was coming to this function, my wife, who is an Ashanti, gave me a warning.

“She said that if I don’t take care and go extreme with my speech, for one week, a lot of things will go against me. I wanted to go against her warning and later go with some chiefs to apologse but as I am sitting here, one prominent person has also come and whispered something to me. So, for today, I won’t talk long,” he said.

The Dormaahene acknowledged that he often feels compelled to respond when the Bono people are unfairly criticised.

He cautioned against provoking him or the Bono people, asserting that he would not hesitate to respond if pushed.

“The historical issues that we talked about, for which people condemned us, today everybody in Ghana has accepted that when it comes to the Akans, the first people that come to mind are the Bono people, and there is no contradiction.

“Sometimes when people accuse us of certain things, it is painful. So, when that happens, some of us respond, and it becomes an issue. But for today, I am not going to talk about it because I am serving notice that my wife has advised me, elders have advised me, but I am a humble lion. I don’t just talk, but if you provoke me, I won’t forgive you.

“So don’t provoke me or the Bono people for me to respond because if nobody provokes the Bono people, I won’t talk again,” he added.
