How Comfort Dogs Offer Healing for Trauma Survivors

Since 2014, the Comfort Dog Project has been helping individuals cope with grief, depression, and post-traumatic stress. Through the unique support of trained therapy dogs, the initiative has positively impacted the lives of at least 134 people, demonstrating the powerful role animals can play in emotional and psychological healing.
The program pairs trauma survivors with specially trained dogs, providing companionship, comfort, and a sense of security. Participants report reduced anxiety, improved mood, and a greater sense of hope after engaging with the dogs, underscoring the effectiveness of this therapeutic approach.
As awareness of mental health grows, initiatives like the Comfort Dog Project highlight the innovative ways communities can support those struggling with trauma, offering both emotional relief and a pathway toward recovery.
