The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has contained a major diesel spillage following an accident involving a bulk fuel tanker at Odumase Afrancho near Liberty Fuel Station.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at about 4:20 p.m., when a Benz bulk tanker with registration number AS 8307-Z reportedly fell on its side after experiencing a steering-lock problem.
The accident resulted in the spillage of approximately 13,500 litres of diesel, creating a potentially hazardous situation in the area.
According to the GNFS, the BOST Fire Crew, led by LFM Tuffour Kwakye Eugene, arrived at the scene at approximately 5:02 p.m. to contain the situation.
Firefighters reportedly used foam to wash away and manage the spilled diesel, helping to reduce the risk of fire and further hazards.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in connection with the incident.
After completing the necessary response and containment operations, the firefighting team reportedly returned to base at 9:59 p.m.
The incident highlights the potential dangers associated with fuel tanker accidents, particularly when large quantities of highly flammable petroleum products are involved.
Authorities and motorists are encouraged to exercise caution around tanker accident scenes and allow emergency responders sufficient space to safely carry out containment and recovery operations.
