Ghana’s democracy shining example – Prince Charles

Heir to the British throne, Prince Charles, has expressed satisfaction about Ghana’s democratic credentials, which, he says, make the country a shining example to others in the sub-region and the whole of Africa.

“I have been profoundly impressed by the remarkable course that Ghana has taken. In these past years, your country has become an example to other nations. It has given its citizens stability and security with strong democratic institutions; free and fair elections and a peaceful transition of power,” the Prince of Wales noted.

The Duke of Cornwall said his personal assessment of Ghana’s trajectory, which points to strong democratic institutions, credible elections, and vibrant political party activities after 60 years of independence, deserve commendation.

He was speaking at the Youth Entrepreneurial Forum in Accra on Monday, 5 November 2018, where he also eulogised the late Ghanaian UN Secretary-General Busumuru Kofi Annan.

The Prince, together with his wife, Camilla, is on a four-day working visit to Ghana after which the couple will fly off to neighbouring Nigeria.

He praised Ghana’s vibrant “multi-party system and multi-faith democracy” and also applauded Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), trade unions and professional associations that have contributed to the drafting of policies for national development.
