Ghana’s academic system is described as practically unfavourable

Human Resource Manager for Golden Bean Hotel Mr. Koko Addo Agyekum has underscored Ghana’s academic system as practically unfavourable.

This according to him owes to fact that it is too theoretical and does not equip students with employable skills.

Most Ghanaian students due to the aforesaid shortfall end up graduating from school with no practical knowledge needed to make the employable in the job market.

Mr. Agyekum explained that because most academic institutions offer students only theoretical knowledge, students due to their lack of industrial knowledge are often turned down when seeking for employment after graduation.

During the holding of IGNITE 5.0, an European Union sponsored event under NBU PROJECT at Asokore Mampong, the HR Manager for Golden Bean disclosed in an interview with THE PRESS RADIO that students who fortunately underwent internship training during their academic year exercise an upper hand over others who were denied practical training.

Because they were equipped with employable skills they are always considered for employment than other students who did only academics.

Students belonging to the first category were offered internship opportunities through the facilitation of their authorities and as a result were able to gain soft skills to make them employable after school.

He therefore challenged academic institutions to do similar by tapping into available opportunities that will offer their students all the needed practical knowledge.

Mr. Kojo Addo Agyekum was one of the proposed speakers for IGNITE 5.0 event.

Other speakers were Mr. Rya G. Kuewor who is the founder for Refugee Integration Organisation, Ms. Raheemat Boamah Boakye serving the capacity as the Ashanti Regional Cluster Manager for Access Bank PIC, Adum.

During the event, speakers shared their stories about their journey towards climbing the ladder of success, discussed the job seeking hassles, tips for succeeding in the job market and how youth can acquire relevant skills needed to succeed on the job market.

The event was organised to again inspire youth of Asokore Mampong Municipality and beyond to take immediate actions to improve their lives.

According to the training coordinator Master Shaibu Fuseini, IGNITE 5.0 event also aimed at acquainting participants with the realities of life; especially in the making of tough decisions: setting daring life goals and taking risks.

He said It helped participants to believe in themselves and introduced them to the realities of the power they posses.
