Ghana to have 2 holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations – Mahama

Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the National Mosque at Kanda on Friday, January 10, 2025, the president assured that the Holidays Act would soon be amended to accommodate this new addition.

“We promised to add one more holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. So, as soon as Parliament settles, we are going to amend the Holidays Act to include an extra holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. This means that this year, after the Ramadan fast, we will have two holidays for the Salah festivities,” he stated.

This pledge was part of his broader commitment to promoting inclusivity and recognising the significance of religious and cultural festivities in the country.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a significant Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, a holy month, during which devout Muslims fast daily from dawn to sunset.

The additional holiday will not only honour one of the most important occasions on the Islamic calendar, but also underline the government’s dedication to promoting unity and respect for all religious communities.
