Ghana Shippers Authority Acting CEO, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, Faces Backlash Over OSP Comments

Professor Ransford Gyampo, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, is currently facing significant criticism from netizens following his public remarks concerning the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) ongoing investigation into Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) and former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The controversy ignited during a panel discussion on TV3 on June 21, 2025, where Prof. Gyampo expressed his hope that the OSP’s investigation into the former Finance Minister was not motivated by “personal vendetta.”
In a swift rebuttal, the Office of the Special Prosecutor issued a statement on June 22, 2025, vehemently debunking Prof. Gyampo’s assertions. The OSP firmly maintained that its investigations are conducted solely on legal grounds, underpinned by concrete allegations of corruption and related offenses in the award of contracts to SML.
Adding another layer to the dispute, the OSP further claimed that Prof. Gyampo had called and sent messages to its office during a search operation at SML’s premises – a claim that Prof. Gyampo has since strongly denied.
These developments have led to a wave of criticism directed at Prof. Gyampo. Notably, Oliver Barker-Vormawor publicly argued that, as a public officer holding a state appointment, Prof. Gyampo lacked the mandate to interfere with the duties of the OSP. He emphasized that it was not Prof. Gyampo’s place to make such a call to the OSP, stressing that only the Attorney General holds the authority to express such sentiments, particularly regarding potential financial loss to the state from an investigation.
Other netizens echoed similar concerns, questioning Prof. Gyampo’s capacity to issue such cautions and suggesting a possible conflict of interest between him and SML.
However, some individuals have also come to Prof. Gyampo’s defense, criticizing the OSP for publicly disclosing his private interaction with their office. These supporters argue that there was nothing improper about his decision to reach out and express his concerns. The incident highlights the delicate balance between public commentary on ongoing investigations and the operational independence of anti-corruption bodies.

1. I think it is in the interest of all appointees to avoid interferences or appearance of interference with ongoing criminal investigations. That should be in the new Code, if it isn’t already!
2. With all due respect to Ransford Gyampo, only the Attorney-General should have…

Prof. Ransford Gyampo has been a staunch defender of SML. Recently, the OSP raided SML and declared Ken Ofori-Atta wanted for, among other things, the dubious contract that entitled SML to over $100 million per year. Mr Prez, see to your friend Prof Gyampo. He has a history. You know it. Why’s he cautioning the SP Kissi Agyabeng?

What’s Prof Gyampo trying to conceal on behalf of Ken Ofori-Atta?
The code of ethics for the Mahama government should get Gyampo out of the Ghana Shippers Council now. pic.twitter.com/3fdO84iDSd

Ransford Gyampo and Kissi Agyabeng are no different; their actions are driven by personal vendettas and selfish, parochial interests.

Prof. Gyampo, you didn’t come to the Shippers’ Authority to remind us you hustled. You came to lead but here we are with corruption thriving, importers suffering, auction mafias eating and all you’ve done is talk like you’re launching a self-help book.
