Ghana football under him was better than Kurt Okraku – Social media users hail Nyantakyi

Some Ghanaians have taken to social media to heap praises on the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, for how football activities were flourishing during his tenure in office.

According to them, Nyantakyi is one of the best GFA presidents the nation has ever had, considering how well the various national teams were performing during tournaments.

Some also argued that, compared to the current GFA President Kurt Okraku, Nyantakyi has totally outperformed him, as the current state of Ghana football is struggling to achieve major successes.

The posts were part of well wishes the former GFA boss received for his birthday on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

During Nyantakyi’s era, the Black Stars qualified for three World Cups, including 2006 in Germany, the 2010 edition in South Africa, where the team made it to the Quarter Finals for the first time, and the 2014 edition in Brazil.

Under his watch, the Black Stars qualified for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition on several occasions, making it to the finals twice but failing to win the trophy.

He was in office from December 30, 2005, to June 7, 2018.

Nyantakyi resigned from his role after investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas released an exposé detailing how the former GFA president was involved in alleged corrupt activities.

Meanwhile, Kurt Okraku has been chastised by the public following the abysmal performance of the Black Stars in recent times, with the team on the brink of missing out on the 2024 AFCON.
