The Ghana Football Association (GFA), under the leadership of President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has announced a series of financial rewards and support packages aimed at strengthening football development across the country.
The announcements were made during the 32nd Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association, held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Under the new financial package, every Ghana Premier League (GPL) club will receive GH¢1 million in support. The champions of the competition will receive an additional GH¢3 million as prize money.
The new package is expected to provide clubs with additional resources to improve their operations, support players and strengthen their competitiveness in the domestic league.
The GFA has also introduced special incentives for the upcoming 2026/27 football season. As part of the initiative, the winners of the Ghana Premier League will receive a vehicle valued at approximately US$33,000.
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) has also been included in the reward structure. The champions of the women’s competition will receive a vehicle valued at approximately US$29,000.
Individual performers will also benefit from the new reward system.
The Ghana Premier League Player of the Season and the Women’s Premier League Player of the Season will each receive US$5,000. The GFA has also allocated US$5,000 to the winner of the GPL Coach of the Season award.
Another major reward announced during the congress is a vehicle valued at US$38,000 for the Best Domestic Black Stars Player.
The recognition is designed to encourage players who perform strongly in Ghana’s domestic league and earn opportunities with the senior national team.
The GFA’s latest announcement comes after goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was recognised for his contribution to the Black Stars. Asare, who plays for Accra Hearts of Oak, was the only Ghana Premier League player included in Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
At the lower level of the football pyramid, clubs in the Division One League will also receive financial assistance. The association has announced a support package worth GH¢16.24 million for clubs competing in the second tier.
The Women’s Premier League will also receive additional support, with each WPL club set to receive GH¢100,000.
The GFA says the financial interventions are part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s domestic football structure and provide clubs with resources to operate more effectively.
In addition to supporting active clubs and players, the association has announced a four-year support programme for former national team players.
The programme comes with a total financial commitment of US$200,000, reflecting the association’s intention to provide assistance to former players who represented Ghana at the international level.
The various initiatives announced at the congress represent a significant financial commitment by the GFA towards different areas of Ghanaian football.
For clubs, the additional funding could help with player development, administration, logistics and other operational expenses. For players and coaches, the individual awards provide further incentives to perform at a high level.
The support for the Women’s Premier League and Division One League also signals an effort to extend financial assistance beyond the country’s top men’s competition.
Meanwhile, the programme for former national team players provides a form of recognition for individuals who previously contributed to Ghana’s football success.
The GFA is expected to implement the various packages during the 2026/27 season as Ghana continues efforts to improve its domestic football system.
The financial rewards could also increase competition among clubs and individuals, with teams and players having additional incentives to achieve success in their respective competitions.
