Full Fight: Ekow Essuman defeat Owen Cooper to become European Welterweight champion

Ghanaian UK-based boxer Essuman is the new European Welterweight champion after defeating title holder Owen Cooper on Saturday, July 21, 2024.

The epic bout that lasted 10 rounds, with Essuman knocking out Cooper with some astonishing punches and a strong left-hand hook.

The boxers traded hard punches through the 10-round with Cooper initially knocking out Essuman with a stunning right-hand jab.

The Ghanaian recovered in time to continue and responded with the left hook that earned him a technical knockout victory on the night in Birmingham, United Kingdon.

The fight had been labelled as ‘Fight of the Year’ by some boxing fans.

The win took Essuman’s record to 20 wins and 1 defeat, while the knockout added to his tally of 7 KOs.

Meanwhile, Cooper recorded the first defeat of his career. He held a 10-0 record with 4 knockouts before the bout.

Essuman is a former British, Commonwealth, and IBF European kingpin. He lost all his belts following a defeat to Harry Scarff.

Cooper, 23, is a WBO European championship title holder ranked 10th.
