The Alice Magistrate’s courthouse in the Eastern Cape has been gutted, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Development announced on Saturday.

“Most parts of the district court burned down, with the exception of the regional court, which is in a separate building within the district court. There were no victims in the fire,”

; said department spokesman Steve Mahlangu.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Mahlangu said the department’s provincial leadership will meet to plan court services.
