Fire Contained at Korle Bu Medical School Laboratory Buildings

A late-night fire that erupted at the Medical Laboratory buildings of the Korle Bu Medical School in Ghana has been successfully brought under control by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), preventing extensive damage to surrounding facilities.
The blaze, which started around 11:50 PM on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, significantly impacted key areas of the Laboratory building, including the Accounts Office, Stores, Administration, and Archives.
Upon receiving a distress call, as reported by the Fire Service in a Facebook post on June 18, 2025, four fire stations—Regional Headquarters Substation, Accra City, National Headquarters Substation, and the Ministries Fire Station—swiftly responded to the scene.
Firefighters worked efficiently, managing to bring the fire under control by 12:43 AM on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, with complete extinguishment achieved by 4:10 AM. Critically, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The prompt action by the GNFS also ensured the protection of adjacent structures, including the Allied Sciences Building, Diabetic Centre, and the Stores Annex, from the inferno.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and has yet to be determined. In a statement, the Greater Accra Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS commended their officers for their professionalism and dedication in effectively managing the incident.
