FDA Links ‘Dadesen’ Cooking Pots to Cancer and Kidney Diseases

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has warned the public about the potential health risks associated with using locally manufactured “Dadesen” cooking pots, stating that the products could contribute to serious illnesses, including cancer and kidney disease.
According to the FDA, scientific assessments have shown that the materials used in producing these pots may release harmful substances when exposed to heat during cooking. Prolonged use could lead to the gradual buildup of toxic metals in the body, posing long-term health dangers.
The Authority has therefore advised Ghanaians to be cautious and consider safer, certified alternatives when purchasing cookware. Officials emphasized that the FDA will continue monitoring the market and working with local manufacturers to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
Health experts and consumer advocates have applauded the FDA’s alert, noting that many households rely on “Dadesen” pots due to affordability and cultural familiarity. They, however, urged the public to prioritize health over cost, as the consequences of toxic exposure can be severe.
The FDA reiterated its commitment to protecting public health through education, product testing, and stricter enforcement of safety regulations in the food and manufacturing sectors.
