A 19-year-old final-year student of St Andrews Senior High School at Sefwi Asawinso in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality has allegedly been abused by his teachers after he reportedly refused to cut his bushy hair.

According to an Adom FM report, the student, Eric Amoako, was directed by his teacher to leave the class to either cut down his hair or have it combed.

Eric Amoako, however, is said to have refused to follow the teacher’s instructions, leading to an alleged exchange of words between them.

This prompted the headmaster to intervene, threatening to beat the student if he did not leave the class to have his hair shaved.

The altercation reportedly resulted in the teachers beating Eric Amoako, leaving cane marks all over his body.

Images captured show the student severely beaten and injured.

The family of Eric Amoako is, however, seeking justice for the treatment meted out to their ward.

An uncle of the victim, who spoke to the news outlet, said Amoako was sent to the SDA clinic at Sefwi Asawinso for treatment and was subsequently discharged.

“The child went for classes this morning and after the classes, he wanted to get something to eat. He met his teacher who said his hair was bushy. His teacher just held him by his uniform and used the cane on him. I saw the child and asked him if he provoked him but he said no.

“The child is a very humble child. He cooks for his father. They operate a chop bar in the village. He is not known to be somebody who is abusive. It’s serious. The child did not provoke them. It’s about the hair,” his uncle told Adom FM in an interview.

Meanwhile, the two teachers were reportedly invited by the police for questioning but have since been granted bail.
