Even if you combine a law degree with a PhD, I will choose a foreign passport – Wayoosi

Kumawood actor Joseph Osei, better known as Wayoosi, has shared his opinion on the ongoing debate comparing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) to a foreign passport.

He believes that there should not be a comparison between a PhD and a foreign passport, as they serve different purposes.

The actor pointed out that if given the choice between the two, he would definitely choose a foreign passport because of the benefits it offers.

In a video posted on social media, Wayoosi stated that even if a law degree were added to a PhD, he would still prefer the passport.

“Enough of this pointless debate, okay? How can you equate a foreign passport with a PhD? Even if you combine a law degree with a PhD, my choice would still be the foreign passport. Don’t overthink this and stress yourself,” he said in Twi.

The discussion escalated after Prof. Kobby Mensah, a lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School, mentioned that a PhD is not the ideal path for those in urgent need of employment.

“A PhD is not for the hungry. It is not for gaining employment, neither is it for entrepreneurship. Get that!” the lecturer wrote on X.

Various celebrities, including John Dumelo, Sister Afia, and Efia Odo, have also shared their opinions on the debate.
