Nana Yaa Jantuah revealed how she became Presidential staffer without her knowledge

Nana Yaa Jantuah, a former Director of Public Relations and External Affairs at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), has claimed that she did not understand the role of a Presidential Staffer when she was appointed by President John Mahama.

The former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) was appointed as part of a series of key appointments to the Office of the President, announced on January 21, 2025.

Speaking in an interview with Happy FM, Nana Yaa Jantuah stated that she was initially confused about the responsibilities of a Presidential Staffer, especially given the large number of individuals who served in that capacity under the previous Akufo-Addo administration.

“When I heard the news of my appointment as a Presidential Staffer, I didn’t understand. I didn’t know what the role entailed because, during former President Akufo-Addo’s regime, there were many people appointed as Presidential Staffers, so I wasn’t sure what the job involved. However, when I resumed work, I realised that being a Presidential Staffer is a lot of work. I am in charge of Energy, Green Transition, and PURC. So, anything involving energy that comes to the presidency, I handle it,” she explained.

In the lead-up to the 2024 Presidential Election, she publicly endorsed John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking at the NDC’s final campaign rally at Zurak Park in Madina, Accra, she passionately declared her support for Mahama, citing his proven leadership and the urgent need for a change in governance.

“I am here because of John Mahama. I am here because I believe Ghana must be liberated. Ghana must be free from what is currently happening, and the only political party at this moment capable of helping us out of this situation is the NDC,” she stated.

“I am officially endorsing John Mahama to be the next President of Ghana. He has done it before—he has led this country before—and he did it excellently. I think it’s time we give him a second chance to finish the good work he started,” she added.
