ECG missing containers: 14 suspects arrested as investigations deepen

Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem-Sai, has confirmed the arrest of 14 individuals, including three Ghanaians and 11 foreign nationals, in connection with the missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers at the Tema Port.

The containers, numbering over 1,300, vanished under suspicious circumstances, raising concerns about possible corruption and collusion within the system.

According to him, the suspects were apprehended by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Police Service at Dangfang Company Limited and Ponlok Manufacturing Company Limited, both located around the Shai Hills area.

He stated that the foreign nationals, who have identified themselves as Chinese, along with their Ghanaian counterparts, are currently under investigation as authorities work to unravel the network behind the missing ECG containers.

He stressed that the police, in accordance with due process, have granted bail to the suspects while retaining their passports to prevent them from fleeing the country.

Additionally, they are required to provide sureties who can ensure their availability for further investigations.

He noted that law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing leads provided by the arrested individuals, as authorities believe the case involves a broader syndicate with more people yet to be apprehended.

Justice Srem-Sai reiterated the government’s commitment to recovering stolen state resources while ensuring that the rights of all suspects are upheld.

He emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and urged the general public to provide any relevant information that could aid in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
