E/R: 13yr old girl dies, 3 others injured in Thursday fires

A 13-year-old girl has died while three other children have suffered various degrees of burns in two separate fire outbreaks in Akateng and Mpintinpi in the Upper Manya Krobo and Birim North Municipality respectively in the Eastern Region .

Both fire incidents occurred on early Thursday morning.

The body of 13-year-old who lost her life in the fire outbreak at Akateng has been deposited at the Eastern Regional Hospital while three siblings – Kwadwo Nyarko, 17,Sheil Ofori, 13, and Kelvin Nyarko, 8, who suffered serious burns at the fire incident at Mpintinpi community are receiving treatment at the Hospital.

The Incidents

Starr News has gathered that in the early hours Thursday around 6:00 am, fire gutted a ten (10) rooms house at Akateng in the Upper Manya Krobo District which burnt the 13 year old girl, who was asleep, to death after her 9-year-old sibling was rescued by persons in the house. Information gathered by Starr News indicates the fire was caused by a premix fuel kept in room by parents of the children after it came into contact with fire.

On same fateful day, at about 5am another fire outbreak had been recorded at Mpintinpi in the Birim North Municipality where three(3) children suffered severe burns after fire, suspect to arson attack, gutted the room they were sleeping in.

Kelvin Nyarko,8 ,was in critical condition and has been transferred to Eastern Regional Hospital for emergency treatment. The two other victims – Kwadwo Nyarko, 17, and Sheila Ofori,13, are on admission at New Abirem Government Hospital.

Father of the victims -Kwadwo Nkansah suspects his nephew to be behind the arson alleging that he has threatened to to kill him because over Ghc350 disagreement.

Officials of fire service and Police are investigating both incidents.
