Dumsor: Don’t blame NDC; NPP has ‘misused’ funds earmarked for electricity – Kwaku Boahen

Deputy Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC], Kwaku Boahen, has slammed members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop blaming the previous NDC government for the recent power outages the parts of the country are currently facing.

“We come in nowhere after leaving government for over two years, what I know for fact is that we left the government in power good electricity conditions which could no longer bring about dumsor,” he proudly said on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ newspaper discussion programme.

According to him, the NDC administration of former President John Dramani Mahama invested heavily in power generation since it is one of the fundamental tools to boost the level of the nation’s productivity.

He said the then government fought very hard to get the country on track as far as electricity issues were concerned.

Kweku Boahen indicated that apart from the previous government putting in proper structures to curb electricity issues, it made back up provision for this sector should they encounter any unexpected problem.

He accused the NPP of misusing the funds allocated by the previous government to solve the electricity crisis.

“Dumsor is back in our country because NPP has misused the funds allocated to electricity crisis,” he bewailed.

PDS’s Response

The Power Distribution Services Ghana (PDS) following Tuesday’s power outage has debunked rumors that ‘Dumsor’ has returned.

Some parts of Accra have been experiencing frequent power outage popularly known as ‘dumsor’.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, some parts of Accra including Lapaz, Abeka, Sowutum, Kasoa, Tema, Kwashieman, Odorkor, Awoshie and others slept in darkness.

This made people wonder if we have entered the era of ‘dumsor’ again.

William Boateng, the Public Relations Officer of the PDS says the recent power outages are as a result of a technical problem which has been resolved.

It is not ‘dumsor’, he assured in an interview on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ on Wednesday..
