don’t spare anointing oil sellers over tax payment-Rev Ofori
The payment of tax yet to be extended and effected on churches in Ghana by Ghana Revenue Authority GRA should be limited to denominations that are bent on the commercializing of the word of God,Rev John Osei Ofori; founder and leader for Counsel of God church has challenged.
All Churches that are purely making merchandise out of the services they render as in the selling of healing water and anointing oil, those who charge for counseling and
consultation, selling of handkerchiefs to church members should not be spared by authorities of GRA.
According to him, such churches should be forced by law to make monthly accounts on all their church expenses and submit same to government.
Speaking to THE PRESS RADIO in an interview, the Kumasi- Afrancho Bronkong based minister indicated that church leaders who do not fall within the aforementioned category should only be taxed on their church salaries and profits they earn from businesses they have established in the name of their church such as schools, hospitals, credit union, transport business among others.
This according to him will help bring sanity in the system since the inactions of some men of God has brought the church under ridicule among critics.
He applauded this new move by Ghana Revenue Authority as a step in the right direction since it will make the church feel part of the development of the country.
