Man fights off Leopard while easing himself in the bush

James Chauke, a man from Zimbabwe, went to the hospital with injuries he got when he fought off a leopard that attacked him while he was going to the bathroom in the bush.

The 25-year-old survivor is being treated at the Gwanda Provincial Hospital, H-Metro reported on January 11, 2023.

Chauke told H-Metro that when the big cat attacked him, he thought he was going to die.

He said, “Yesterday (Tuesday), around lunchtime, I was working on a plot near a dense forest.

“I went to relieve myself. I saw some impalas and other animals, but I didn’t know that a leopard was after them. I was with the animals and never thought a single one of them was dangerous.

“I heard growling sounds, but I thought it was just baboons eating. Ndakati kogudo ririkungoramba richibhonga igudo rudzii. I turned around to see what it was, and it was a leopard.

“It was too late when it came running at me. I grabbed its front leg when it jumped at me. I was able to grab a stone and hit its mouth with it.

“It was a life-or-death situation for me, and all I could do was hit its mouth with a stone.”

James thought it was a mother leopard with her cubs because he heard the cubs crying. He can’t remember who helped him or how he got to the hospital.
