Domeabra residents protest sale of cemetery to private developer

Residents of Adansi Domeabra in the Obuasi East District of the Ashanti region are outraged over attempts by community leaders to sell a public cemetery to a private developer, Golden Bird from Asonkore.

To express their displeasure, they embarked on a demonstration on Saturday.

Wearing red and black apparel, the residents marched through the cemetery and proceeded to the house of the Regent, Nana Kwaw to demand an explanation.

Joseph Kwakye, an opinion leader said the town has existed for over 400 years and no chief has ever dared to sell any part of the cemetery.

He claimed information they have gathered suggests Nana Kwaw said he sold the cemetery to raise money for the funeral rites of a late chief.

Mr Kwakye said though they are yet to hear the regent’s side of the story, he would be destooled if the rumours are true.
