Director of Winneba Trauma Hospital relieved of duties

The Medical Director of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital has been temporarily relieved of his duties as the Ghana Health Service (GHS) launches an investigation into allegations of patient abandonment.

This inquiry follows reports that a patient was left in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi in the Central Region.

The incident came to public attention on Thursday, June 13, when a video circulated on social media purportedly showing a woman wrapped in sheets and abandoned in a bush. Social media users claimed that the woman was dumped by an ambulance from the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

In a statement dated Friday, June 14, GHS Director-General Patrick Kuma-Aboagye informed the Minister of Health about the incident and the steps being taken.

“To ensure credibility and unfettered access to all relevant information, the Medical Director has temporarily been relieved of his post pending the outcome of the investigation,” the statement read.
