Court Judgment Clears Way for Burial of Business Mogul Barima Kofi Adjei Twinin After Five Years

A court judgment has paved the way for the burial and final funeral rites of the late Nana Barima Kofi Adjei Twinin, a prominent Ghanaian businessman and traditional leader, five years after his death.

Adjei Twinin, who died in 2021 following a short illness, was a recognised figure in Ghana’s hospitality industry. His burial was delayed by a dispute among family members over his properties and funeral arrangements, leaving his final rites unresolved for several years.

The latest court decision is reported to have brought the prolonged disagreement to a close, allowing the family to proceed with preparations for his burial and funeral ceremonies.

The funeral is scheduled to take place from November 27 to 29, 2026, at Akyem Kwabeng in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region, his hometown. The three-day event is expected to bring together family members, traditional authorities, business associates, friends and sympathisers to honour his life and contributions.

During his lifetime, Adjei Twinin played an important role in Ghana’s hospitality sector. He served as National President of the Ghana Hotels Association and was the Chief Executive Officer of Mac Dic Royal Plaza Hotel.

His work in the industry extended beyond hotel management, with a focus on hospitality development and training. Initiatives associated with Mac Dic Royal Plaza Hotel and the Mac-Dic Royal Hospitality Academy contributed to efforts to develop skills and prepare young people for careers in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

Adjei Twinin also held traditional leadership positions, serving as Dwantoahene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area and Akyempemhene of Akyem Kwabeng. These roles reflected his involvement in traditional governance and community affairs.

The delay in his burial drew attention to the dispute over his estate and the difficulties that can arise when disagreements among relatives affect funeral arrangements. The reported court ruling now provides an opportunity for the family to move forward with the final rites.

Although the dispute reportedly centred on properties and funeral arrangements, detailed information about the specific terms of the judgment and the issues determined by the court has not been publicly disclosed in the reports reviewed.

With the funeral dates announced, preparations are expected to continue ahead of the November ceremony. The event will provide an opportunity for mourners to celebrate Adjei Twinin’s life and reflect on his contributions to business, hospitality training and traditional leadership.

His death marked the loss of a figure whose activities connected the private sector with traditional institutions and community development. The forthcoming funeral is expected to bring together people from these different areas to pay their respects.

The court decision represents a significant development in the long-running matter, clearing the way for the final funeral rites to proceed after years of uncertainty.
