Chief of Nahinso arrested for repairing roads authorities failed to attend to after several appeals
The Chief of Nahinso, Nana Addo Boaman, has been arrested by the Asokwa Municipal Assembly for undertaking road works without official permission.
Nana Boaman explained that he initiated the road repairs after authorities repeatedly failed to address the poor road conditions, which have led to persistent flooding in the area despite numerous appeals from motorists and residents.
He has since been granted bail over the weekend, citinewsroom.com reports.
For years, the residents and motorists of Nahinso, a community in the Asokwa Municipality, bordering the Bosomtwi District and Oforikrom Municipality, have complained about the deteriorating road network.
The road construction was abandoned after the drains were built, which, according to road users, has worsened their situation.
Pits created on portions of the road due to alleged sand-winning activities pose significant threats to road users.
The report said these pits often result in flooding, making movement difficult and affecting nearby houses.
In response, Nana Addo Boaman began filling the pits and repairing the road to make it motorable after failed attempts to get the authorities to address the problem.
However, officials from the Asokwa Municipal Assembly stopped him, emphasizing that he did not have permission to carry out the repairs.
The police at the Asokwa District Command arrested him, but he was later granted bail over the weekend.
The Assembly maintains that the chief did not follow proper procedures before undertaking the road works.
Despite the arrest and ongoing threats, Nana Boaman has stated that he will not give up on fixing the road.
