Chelsea promote English-born Ghanaian duo Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George to first team

English Premier League side, Chelsea, have promoted two Ghanaian youngsters who were born in England, Joshua Acheampong and Tyrique George, to join their first team.

This is a significant achievement for the duo, who joined the club at the age of 8 and have been instrumental in the youth team for quite some time.

The youngsters were part of the London club’s pre-season tour in the United States (US) at the beginning of the 2024/25 season and have since been training with the senior squad.

Chelsea head coach, Enzo Maresca, while introducing the duo, hailed them for their impressive performances and urged them to improve in order to earn a place in the starting eleven.

The announcement of their promotion to the first team was made by the club on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

George signed a long-term contract with the club in the summer, while Acheampong also signed a contract that runs till 2029.

Although both players have represented England at the youth levels, they are still eligible to play for the Black Stars if they decide to do so.
