The Bankers Committee has completed the renovation and modernization of the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, marking a significant return of national pride.

During a tour of the renovated National Theatre complex and a media briefing, the Committee announced the completion of the project.

The refurbishment project began in July 2021, following approval from the Federal Government and the transfer of the national building to the Bankers’ Committee.

The goal of the Bankers’ Committee was to transform the iconic asset into a creative and entertainment hub with essential community spaces for Nigerians. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for young people in the creative sector, leading to job creation, income generation, and foreign exchange.

Notable features of the renovation project include two newly refurbished movie theatres with capacities of 200 and 500 people, a dining hall accommodating up to 3,000 people, and a rebuilt main bowl capable of seating 4,000 people. Additionally, VIP areas, actor changing rooms, an industrial kitchen, restroom facilities, a clinic, a fire station, and lobby areas have all undergone extensive renovations.

Upgrades were also made to the fire stations, power installations, sewage and water supply systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, and other facilities.

The current designs redesigned interior walkways, and paintings in the various halls have given the old venue a modern and fresh appeal.
