Canadian girls kidnap: Limping man speaks about his ‘involvement’

Safianu Abubakar, one of the eight suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping of the Canadian girls has explained how he got linked to the crime he insists he is innocent about.

Ghanaians on Wednesday June 12, 2019 were left in shock when among the eight suspected kidnappers included a physically challenged person who has been identified as Safianu Abubakar.

According to police sources, he played an auxiliary role in the kidnap for which reason he was arrested and arraigned before court with other suspects including three Nigerians and four Ghanaians.

According to the suspect,  Abubakar, he was arrested because he took a picture with Yusif Yakubu, one of the  key accused persons.

“Yusif Yakubu took a picture with me and posted it on Facebook. The police arrested me because of that picture. I want to tell the court that I was not part of the gang that kidnapped the girls,” he said in open court.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor, Ms Hilda Craig is asking for more time to conclude with investigations stating that there appear to be some connection between suspect Safianu Abubakar and Yusif Yakubu.

Safianu Abubakar and Abdul Rahman Suleman have since been remanded in custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) by an Accra High Court presided over by Justice George Buadi to reappear on July 1, 2019.
