BWI and FIFA Sign Landmark Agreement to Protect Workers’ Rights

The Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) has partnered with FIFA in a historic agreement designed to improve the rights and welfare of workers involved in constructing infrastructure for FIFA tournaments worldwide.
The partnership highlights FIFA’s commitment to ensuring that all workers engaged in the preparation of global football events benefit from safe working conditions, fair wages, and adherence to international labor standards.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino commented on the collaboration:
“We want to ensure that everyone benefits when a country hosts a FIFA tournament, and that includes those who build the infrastructure.”
Under the agreement, BWI and FIFA will implement measures to enhance worker protections, monitor working environments, and promote transparency in the construction of stadiums and related facilities. This initiative is expected to set a new standard for social responsibility in the sports industry.
The partnership has been welcomed by labor organizations worldwide as a positive step towards upholding workers’ rights in a sector often criticized for exploitative practices. Stakeholders believe it will serve as a blueprint for future collaborations between international sports organizations and labor unions.
