Broken-hearted man allegedly hangs himself at Edwenasi

A 25-year-old man, Nicholas Apotei, has allegedly died by suicide following the end of a romantic relationship with a woman he deeply loved in Edwenase, Ashanti Region.

According to Accra-based dailyguidenetwork.com, Nicholas, unable to cope with the heartbreak, reportedly hanged himself using a sponge tied to a noose that was fastened to a ceiling fan in his kitchen.

Reports indicate that his lifeless body was discovered around 10:00 AM on May 24, 2025, and the incident was immediately reported to the Mamponteng District Police.

His body was subsequently transported to the morgue for autopsy.

“On 24/05/2025 at 1000 hours, Oliver Donkor of Edwenase came to the station and reported that his friend, Nicholas Apotei, aged 25, was found to have hanged himself in his kitchen at Edwenase,” dailyguidenetwork.com quoted the police as saying.

The outlet further disclosed that preliminary investigations by the Mamponteng Police revealed that Nicholas had been in a relationship with a woman named Perpetual from Bekwai.

However, she reportedly ended the relationship about a week ago, leaving him devastated.

According to the police, all attempts to help Nicholas recover from the heartbreak or reconcile with Perpetual proved unsuccessful.

He allegedly threatened to take his own life, a threat he ultimately carried out on the said date.

“The police, together with the complainant, proceeded to the scene and found the lifeless body of a young man, aged about 25, wearing white shorts and a singlet, hanging in his kitchen.

“The victim was found to have used a sponge to tie a noose to a ceiling fan, while his iPhone 16 Pro Max was placed on the kitchen cabinet facing him,” the police report stated.

Additionally, the police noted that Nicholas’s feet were touching the ground, with a kitchen stool found beside him.

“The body was carefully inspected, and although no marks of assault were found, the neck was swollen and the tongue protruded,” the report added.

Meanwhile, police have since invited Perpetual to assist with ongoing investigations, according to the media outlet.
