The BRICS bloc is sending out its first invitations for the upcoming 2024 Summit in Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin invited the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to attend the summit in Kazan this year. According to reports, the Middle Eastern head of state promptly accepted the invitation.

King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa arrived in Moscow on Wednesday to hold talks with President Putin and sign joining documents. Bahrain has recently become interested in the BRICS initiative, and due to its ties with Russia, it may be a candidate to receive an invite to join the alliance this fall.

The BRICS bloc is keen on further expansion at the upcoming summit. They look to invite more nations to the summit to gauge who will be the next members of the expanded BRICS+. The alliance successfully inducted four new members at the beginning of 2024, following the issuing of five official invites at last year’s summit.

BRICS Has Plenty Of Options To Invite To Upcoming Summit

The number of nations interested in joining BRICS has grown dramatically since the last wave of invites. Early reports indicate dozens of countries globally are interested in joining the bloc, hoping to receive summit invites. These interested parties include nations in Africa, Asia, South America, the Middle East, and even Europe.

Another given for countries interested in joining BRICS is the support of the lead mission of the bloc, de-dollarization. The overthrowing of the US Dollar is near the top of the list for the BRICS economic bloc, and it has done a great job to this point in abandoning the greenback and inspiring other nations to do the same. The bloc hopes to use alternative currencies, like local ones or a new BRICS currency, to become the new lead global reserve in trade and surpass the US Dollar.

The BRICS Summit will be held this October in Tatarstan, Russia.
