BREAKING NEWS: 4 Church members drown in canoe disaster

Four of ten passengers on a canoe who were crossing a river for crusade organized by the New Akrade Assemblies of God Church in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region have drowned.

MyNewsGh.com gathered that the overloaded canoe capsized in the middle of the trip dumping all passengers into the water.

Local fishermen were able to rescue four of them alive while two were later brought ashore dead as there are efforts currently underway to rescue the rest who are believed to be dead by now.

A local resident told this portal that it has been more than two hours of search for the rest doubting if they could be found alive considering the length of time they have spent in the water.

The Asuogyaman District police command has deployed personnel to the scene to help retrieve bodies of the victims while the owner of the canoe has been arrested and detained by the police to assist with investigations.

“The canoe owner overloaded it and the passengers were not also wearing life jackets. We warned him not to go on the trip because we realized some defects on his canoe but he was impervious to advice leading to the disaster”, assemblyman for the area revealed.
