Bottled Water Trailer Ablaze on Accra-Kumasi Highway: 70% Cargo Saved

A serious incident unfolded on Wednesday, June 11, when a MAN TGX26 trailer carrying bottled water erupted in flames at Suhum Mile 44, located on the busy Accra-Kumasi highway. The inferno, which remains under investigation to determine its precise cause, prompted a rapid response from emergency services.

Swift Response and Salvage Efforts

Firefighters from the Bunso Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were quickly dispatched to the scene. Their prompt and efficient actions were crucial in managing the blaze. According to a statement released by the GNFS, the firefighting team successfully contained the flames, preventing a complete loss of the trailer’s valuable cargo. Remarkably, they managed to salvage approximately 70 percent of the bottled water, a testament to their efforts.

Traffic Disruption and Safety Call

While the incident led to heavy vehicular traffic on the major highway, causing significant delays for commuters and transporters, it’s a relief to report that no casualties were sustained. This fortunate outcome underscores the importance of quick emergency response and, potentially, the effectiveness of any initial safety measures taken by the driver.

In the wake of this event, authorities have issued a strong reminder to transport operators and drivers. They are urged to rigorously adhere to fire safety protocols, particularly when undertaking long-distance journeys with commercial goods. This incident serves as a critical reminder of the unpredictable nature of road transport and the paramount need for vigilance and preparedness to prevent similar occurrences and ensure the safety of both cargo and human lives.
