Maclean Amoah, a worker with the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) at Sefwi-Asawinso in the Western North Region has given a detailed account to MyNewsGh.com of how he was mistaken for an armed robber and shot by the police.

The victim who is currently nursing a life-threatening gunshot injury at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital disclosed that he was driving alone in his saloon car with registration number, GN 1124-12 when the incident happened.

“There was no sign indicating it was a police barrier. It is only when you get closer you will notice that they spring up to stop you but the way that section of the road is if you make the least mistake another vehicle will hit you at the back. So when I got closer with the speed in which I was driving I could not stop and sped off”, he revealed.

“Few moments later, I saw this unregistered BMW vehicle trailing me with full speed. Because the area is noted for highway robberies I refused to stop but on reaching Nyinahin I stopped and the unregistered BMW also pulled over and one of them shot me and left me bleeding”, he revealed.

He disclosed that he was stopped by officials of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service some few kilometres away who enquired why he failed to stop when he was flagged by their colleague but upon explanation, he was allowed to proceed.

According to him, residents of Nyinahin nearly lynched him because the police claimed he was an armed robber but some of Samaritans intervened before he was taken to a health facility at Nyinahin before being transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

MyNewsGh.com has gathered that the wife of the victim is a police officer at Dorma in the Ahafo region.

The family of the victim is demanding justice and calling on the Minister of the Interior and the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the matter and bring the officers to book.

According to them, the identity of Maclean Amoah has never been in doubt since it can be easily verified at the GRIDCo and not an armed robber as the police wants the public to believe.
