Bawumia visits Ntim Fordjour amid ‘illegal’ arrest attempt

In a social media post, Rev. Ntim Fordjour expressed appreciation for the former Vice President’s show of support during what he called a moment of political harassment.
“Thank you very much, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (@MBawumia), for the visit to my residence this evening following the politically motivated, lawless act of harassment by the NDC government in their attempt to gag MPs from exercising their legitimate oversight,” he wrote.
According to reports, officers from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) stormed the residence of Rev Ntim Fordjour in an attempt to arrest him.
Although the exact reason for the attempted arrest remains unclear, it follows recent explosive allegations made by the MP involving drug trafficking and money laundering.
Sources say the NIB operatives left the scene after several high-ranking members of the NPP, including MPs and national executives, arrived at the lawmaker’s home to resist the arrest.
Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo, who spoke on behalf of the NPP leadership at the scene, disclosed that about 20 NIB operatives had surrounded the house but later withdrew.
“We will not allow any of our members to be intimidated or harassed by the John Dramani Mahama government,” he stated, adding that the NPP caucus, which he dubbed “The Mighty Minority,” stands firmly behind Rev. Fordjour.
The attempted arrest comes days after Rev Ntim Fordjour alleged at a press conference on April 1, 2025, that two aircraft, a private jet and an air ambulance, were possibly involved in drug trafficking or money laundering.
He claimed that one of the aircrafts, Air MED flight L823 AM, landed in Ghana on March 20 and remained at the Kotoka International Airport for five days without any record of transporting a patient.
In response to the claims, President John Dramani Mahama directed national security agencies to fully collaborate with the Assin South MP to investigate the allegations.
“Ghana has a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking, and we will not allow the country to be used as a transit point or final destination for illicit drugs,” the president said.
He instructed all security agencies to work with Rev Ntim Fordjour to uncover the truth behind the two suspicious flights allegedly linked to drug trafficking.
As political tensions rise over the issue, both sides are holding firm to their narratives, while the nation awaits the outcome of investigations into one of the most controversial drug-related claims in recent times.
