The Council of the University of Ghana (UG) has appointed Prof Lydia Aziato as the substantive Dean for the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM).
A communiqué said the council considered and approved Prof Aziato’s appointment during its meeting held on 15 July 2019.
Prof Aziato replaces Prof Ernestina Donkor who was the Acting Dean from 2017 to 2019.
The University of Ghana School of Nursing and Midwifery is a constituent School of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana. The School was established as a World Health Organisation project in 1963, to train nurses and midwives at the tertiary level in Ghana.
Currently, the School runs several programmes, including BSc. Midwifery and Nursing (with options in Community Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Paediatric Nursing and General Nursing), MSc. Nursing (Regular and Sandwich options), MPhil. Paediatric Nursing, MPhil. Nursing (Regular and Sandwich options). A PhD in Nursing programme is slated to commence in August 2020.
