Awoshie Pokuase Highway: Land Owners’ Petition Gov’t, Lands Commission, Others Over unpaid Compensation

 

The land owners of Anyaa, Awoshie, Ablekuma-Olebu, Amomole, Ayawoso and Pokuase all in the Greater Accra Region, have petitioned the Land Valuation Division of the Lands Commission to facilitate the payment of their compensation by the end of December 2018.

In a petition signed by Peter Kofi Adu also known as Star and PRO- Umar Abubakar Tanko and sighted by this reporter stated that the Government of Ghana used Executive Instrument E.I 2006, to acquire their lands from them for the construction of Awoshie – Pokuase Road in the year 2010.

They revealed that non of the (the land owners) is yet to receive any payment of compensation from the authorities for their lands.

According to them, upon their checks at the Urban Roads for their compensation , they were directed to Land Valuation Division of the Lands Commission ,since then they have been going there but always they were told the Commission is working around the clock to ensure the payment of the compensation which yield no results till date.

The situation they said has brought untold hardship on them, resulting in the untimely death of some of their members whilst others are sick.

This they gave the Land Valuation Division and the Government of Ghana Seven (7) days ultimatum to as a matter of urgency facilitate the payment of their compensation.
They emphasized that should the government failed to heed to their petition after the seven days ultimatum they will embark on massive demonstration to express their displeasure on government’s refusal to pay what is due them ( their compensation).
