National Democratic Congress Presidential candidate, John Mahama has still not picked his running mate for the December polls.
A lot of people are wondering why as the period for the elections is a few months from now.
So far people are hinting that 3 people deserve to be his running mate.
These 3 people are Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, who is former Minister of Finance in the late Mills’ administration and former Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), and former Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Cassiel Ato Forson.
Well, the General Secretary of the NDC party, Hon. Asiedu Nketiah has come out to reveal the reasons why Mahama has still not selected his running mate.
When asked Wednesday on ‘Onua Maakye’ on Onua TV as to what was causing the delays, Mr Asiedu Nketia said “if the time comes we shall name the running mate but for now, the President said we should fight the coronavirus so that is our focus”.
He said Ghana is currently at war with coronavirus which has globally overwhelmed health facilities and caused economies to plunder.
“If the economy is in bad shape, it affects every sector. We have an emergency situation so we must pay attention to it,” he indicated.
Quoting President Akufo-Addo’s comment that government knows how to revive the economy but does not know how to bring back human life, the NDC scribe said “if we are all sick or running away by December because of coronavirus, how can you go for elections?”.
“If the President lifts the ban on public gathering and normalcy is restored, we shall do normal things”, he told co-host of the show, Bright Kwasi Asempa.
As it stands, Ghana as at the time of this report has 1,671 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, 188 recoveries and 16 deaths.
