Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly Cuts Sod For Ultra-Modern State Of Art AstroTurf Worth 3.5M Cedi

The sodcutting ceremony for the construction of this Ultra-Modern state of the Art Sport Facility (Astroturf) in the municipality during the tenure as MCE.
The construction of this facility comes with direct and indirect benefits to the municipality. Sport in recent times is seen as catalyst for National Development and Peace. It is against this background that United Nations has designated 6th April every year as the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace. Sport is used to promote peace as it enhances healthy social development and interaction. According to Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy General Secretary, ” Sports has the power to align our passion, energy and enthusiasm around a collective cause. And that’s precisely when hope can be nurtured and trust can be recognised. It is in our collective interest to harness the tremendous power of Sports to help build a better and a more sustainable future for all” he lamented.
It is in this vein that the NPP government led by H.E President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has committed much resources into the development of most park in Ghana to AstroTurf.
Speaking at the official sodcutting ceremony for the Ultra-Modern state of the Art Sport Facility in Asante Akim Odumase United Park , the MCE for Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly, Hon Robert Kwakye hinted that it is the hope of government to reduce unemployment among the youth of Ghana through sporting activities, and this can be achieved through the construction and development of modern parks at each district in Ghana.
So far, the NPP government has constructed and commissioned over 58 AstroTurfs from 2020 to date which have been variously sponsored and or financed by the GNPC, Ghana Gas, VRA and Zongo Development Authority.
“Let me mention some of the benefits the citizens of the municipality stand to gain from the construction and completion of this modern sport facility” he assured.
The completion of this facility will help to unearth all the hidden sport talents and also help improve the skills of all the known sportsman and women in the municipality.
He was optimistic that the facility will enhance sporting activities by providing forum for young people in the municipality to learn how to deal with competition and how to cope with both winning and losing. These learning aspects highlights the impact of sport on child’s social and moral development in addition to physical skills and abilities.
According to him, the facility has the potential to enhance sports professional development in the municipality. In the past, the municipality produced one of Ghana’s football legends, Sully Ali Muntalley and hopes to produce more after the completion of the park to further uplift the image of the municipality through sports in Ghana and the world as a whole.
Meanwhile the MP for Asante Akim Central Hon Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, reiterates that it is wish that the renovations of the Konongo stadium but rather the choice of the youth call for the AstroTurf sporting facility he had know option than to comply with their wish.
The facility is to transform lives of individuals by bolstering physical, psychological, emotional, social well-being and development in the constituency.
