Ghanaian ‘Prince’ jailed 20 years in USA for fraud

An Ohio-based man who claims to be a Ghanaian Prince has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for fraud .

The convict presented himself as a Ghanaian Prince according to an CNN report and swindled a dozen victims out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

According to evidence presented in the court, Daryl Robert Harrison used the name  Prince Daryl R. Attipoe and Prophet Daryl R. Attipoe and conned about 14 people of over $800,000.

A number of persons who fell for his scheme were members of the  Power House of Prayer Ministries where Harrison and his stepfather were Ministers.

Harrison and his stepfather are said to have used people’s investments to fund their exorbitant lifestyle. They rented a house in Colorado and purchased luxury cars.

District Judge Michael J. Newman who sentenced Harrison gave him 20 years behind bars contrary to the 14 years prosecutors pleaded for.

Meanwhile, CNN reports that Harrison had asked the judge for a much lower sentence, highlighting supportive letters written by parishioners and family members. Harrison’s defense attorney also noted that his wife, who is taking care of their six children, is battling stage IV cancer.
