Anas is a rogue, criminal – Former circuit court judge

A former circuit court judge, Isaac Kwarteng says he was wrongfully dismissed from the bench due to the activities of “rogue and criminal” investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Isaac Kwarteng who was part of 34 judges indicted in Tiger Eye PI’s 2015 exposé on corruption in the judicial service says the evidence against him was questionable.

Sharing his story on Net 2 TV’s National Agenda, Mr. Kwarteng who was based in the Upper West regional capital, Wa at the time of the exposé stated that he was dismissed for allegedly taking bribe to grant a 13-year-old boy brought to his court for stealing a motorcycle bail.

The former judge, however, revealed that the bail was granted the boy the same day he was brought before the court; 9 months before the date quoted by Anas as the supposed date on which he took the bribe.

According to him “by law a child below 16-years is not supposed to be put on remand, so I granted the boy bail the very day he was brought to the court only for Anas to allege 9 months later that he gave me money to grant the bail”.

Isaac Kwarteng noted that the evidence; the video, showed him in a courtroom with certain unidentified persons and some money lying around but the prosecutor and police officers who were present in the courtroom were missing.

“I don’t know why they are doing that. They are very wicked people. Anas is a rogue, a criminal and corrupt,” he stressed, adding that it is about time such videos are tested to ascertain its authenticity before drawing conclusions “because how can over 10 police officers who were in the courtroom with me be missing in the video”.

For Isaac Kwarteng, it was absurd for a judge who was taking over ¢6,000 as salary at the time to accept a bribe of just ¢500, the amount he was accused of taking, adding that the video didn’t even show him taking any money.

“No one was counting money in the video, there was only some money crumpled and lying down so how did they know it was ¢500. Will a judge taking ¢6,000 at the time take just ¢500 as bribe?”
