WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW

The Regent of Nakung, in the Northern Region, Adams Bawa Mahama, has been arrested by the police, Graphic Online has gathered.

It is not clear why he has been arrested but police sources have confirmed that the Regent is in custody.

The move has heightened tension in the Yendi area and the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed has moved in to calm the tension.

Family sources have alleged that the Regent was arrested because he performed his father’s final funeral rites and was supposed to pay homage to the Regent of Dagbon for him to select the next of kin but he allegedly refused to do so.

Reports suggest there is a charged atmosphere at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council at Tamale where a number of Andani youth have gathered and demanding the release of the chief.

To them, the Regent of Nakung has done nothing wrong by performing his father’s final funeral rites.
