President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed that suspended deputy Sports Minister Pius Enam Hadzide will resume work on Monday.

According to the president, a report by the Ghana Police Service on investigations into the Australia Visa Scandal has cleared the deputy Sports Minister of any complicity in the incident.

“We had an independent body investigate the visa scandal in Australia…on my return from South Africa last night, the police report was presented to me and it was found that the suspended deputy sports minister was not complicit. I will restore him to his position on Monday,” the president said during a speech at the Koforidua Technical University in the Eastern region Saturday during the New Patriotic Party’s national delegate’s conference.

The Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide, and the acting National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General, Robert Sarfo Mensah, were suspended by the President in the latest development in the fake journalists scandal that hit Ghana’s participation in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Scores of Ghanaians were deported from Australia after they were deemed to be non-genuine travellers posing as journalists for the Commonwealth Games.

According to Australian authorities, although all the affected persons had the necessary accreditation, they were not convinced the reported persons were real journalists.

Following this, the government referred the case to the National Security for investigations following which the suspensions were made.
