Acting Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie takes over assignment of new court cases and applications

This update was announced in a statement dated April 23, 2025, and signed by Dr Cyracus B. Bapuuroh, the Deputy Judicial Secretary.

“I have been directed by the Acting Honourable Chief Justice to inform you that all newly filed cases and applications must be brought to his attention for court assignments, empanelling of judges (where there are more than one court), and for the fixing of hearing dates.

“Please take note that this directive supersedes all previous directives until further notice,” the statement read.

The President has suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo following the establishment of a five-member committee to investigate three separate petitions seeking her removal from office.

In her absence, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, the most senior judge on the Supreme Court, is serving as the Acting Chief Justice.

He will continue in this role until the substantive Chief Justice resumes duty or a new appointment is made.
