The Police has arrested three persons who were packaging substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The three persons namely; George Agidi aka Doctor Aggrey, age 30, Adam Razak, age 31 and 17-year-old Nunekpeku Isaac were arrested at Ve-Koloenu in the Afadjato South District of the Volta Region.

The Volta Regional Police PRO, Prince Dogbatse who confirmed the incident said the three were arrested during a dawn swoop by the Drugs Law Enforcement Unit of the Regional Police Command on May 7, 2020.

He explained that the suspects were arrested while packaging suspected cannabis into compressed slabs meant for commercial distribution.

A total of eight sacks of the compressed Indian hemp and tools including seven heavy-duty car jacks and special purpose metal fabrications used in compressing the cannabis were retrieved from the hideout of the trio.

The items which are in the possession of the Police have been kept in evidence to aid investigations.

He hinted that similar exercises will be done in other parts of the region to reduce incidents of violent crimes which per the Police’s observations is closely linked to narcotic use.

The operation to clamp down on narcotics in the region reiterates an earlier warning by the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Oduro Kwarteng that criminals should pack bag and baggage and vacate the region or face arrest and prosecution by the Police.

To this end, he assured the public that the Police is committed to deliver on its mandate and will stop at nothing to prevent and solve crimes.

He was quick to add that the success of reducing crime to the barest minimum relies on a strong bond between the Police and the public.

He appealed to the public to take their personal security seriously, watch out for each other and provide prompt information about crimes to the Police for swift action.
