The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to award 100 teachers across the country on 27 November 2019 at the Manhyia Palace.

The awardees are basic school teachers teaching in deprive communities across the country for a period of five years.

The 7th Otumfuo teachers awards seeks to appreciate hardworking teachers in deprived communities where some teachers over the years have refused posting there due to lack of electricity, telephone connectivity, portable drinking water among others.

The award scheme initiated by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Fund (OOTCF) years ago has awarded over 600 teachers across the country by the Asante monarch with various goodies including cash, laptops, refrigerators and scholarships to teachers to further their education from master’s degree to PhD levels.

The 7th edition of the teacher’s awards will be held at the Manhyia Palace as part of the activities marking the 20th anniversary of the Asantehene’s reign on the Golden Stool.

The Executive Director of OOTCF, Dr Thomas Agyarko-Poku disclosed this at the Manhyia Palace during presentation of 50 brand new laptops to the Foundation by British Council’s Country Director, Alan Rutt.

The donation forms part of the British Council’s contribution towards appreciating Ghanaian teachers in rural communities without basic social amenities.

The donation was received by Lady Julia Osei Tutu wife of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and management of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation.

Dr Agyarko-Poku who spoke on behalf of the foundation commended, British Council for the gesture.

In a related development, Lady Julia has also donated 13 electronic hospital beds to four selected clinics outside Kumasi Metropolis as part of her contribution towards minimising negative impact of no bed syndrome in the Ashanti region.
