Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, have advanced to the third round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games after recording an emphatic 7-0 victory over Mauritius.
The Black Queens secured the comprehensive win on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Essipong Stadium in Sekondi-Takoradi, completing a 10-0 aggregate triumph over their opponents. Ghana had won the first leg 3-0 in Mauritius the previous week.
The hosts approached the return fixture with confidence, dominating proceedings and putting the Mauritian side under sustained pressure from the opening stages.
Captain Portia Boakye opened the scoring before Evelyn Badu and Ajegipina Zakaria added further goals to give Ghana a commanding 3-0 advantage at halftime.
The Black Queens continued their attacking display after the break, creating more opportunities as they sought to extend their lead and strengthen their position in the qualifying contest.
Substitute Benedicte Simon scored Ghana’s fourth goal in the 73rd minute, further underlining the hosts’ dominance. Jennifer Cudjoe then converted a penalty to make it 5-0.
Nancy Amoh and Mukarama Abdulai added two late goals to complete the 7-0 victory, sending the home supporters into celebration and confirming Ghana’s progress to the next stage.
The result means the Black Queens have now scored 10 goals across the two legs without conceding, demonstrating their effectiveness in attack and defensive organisation against Mauritius.
Ghana will now turn their attention to the third round of the African qualifying campaign, scheduled for February 2027. The team is expected to face either Uganda or Zambia, depending on the outcome of their qualifying tie.
The Black Queens are pursuing qualification for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Ghana have yet to secure a place in the Olympic women’s football competition, making the ongoing campaign an important opportunity for the national side.
The emphatic victory over Mauritius provides a positive foundation for the next round, although the team will need to maintain its performance as the competition becomes more demanding.
The technical team and players will now focus on preparations for their next opponents as Ghana continue their bid to reach the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
