The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted Suame Member of Parliament John Darko enquiry bail following his appearance before investigators in connection with an ongoing probe into an alleged GH¢27 million financial loss involving SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited.
Darko reported to EOCO on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to assist investigators with information relevant to the inquiry. His appearance forms part of efforts by the office to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported financial loss and determine whether any criminal conduct occurred.
According to reports, the investigation centres on an alleged criminal conspiracy involving SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited, with the estimated financial loss placed at approximately GH¢27 million.
Darko’s invitation had attracted public attention after he indicated earlier in October that he had been informed of a possible connection to the investigation. He reportedly stated on October 3 that he would cooperate with the authorities if formally invited.
His appearance before EOCO is intended to assist investigators as they gather information and examine the circumstances surrounding the case. The specific allegations against the Suame MP have not been fully detailed in the information available.
Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, a former managing director of SIC Life Savings and Loans, has also reportedly honoured an invitation from EOCO and is cooperating with investigators.
The involvement of individuals connected to the company has placed the institution’s financial dealings under scrutiny as investigators seek to establish how the alleged loss occurred and whether any individuals bear responsibility.
EOCO has emphasised that investigations are ongoing and that no conclusion has been reached regarding the culpability of anyone connected to the matter.
Enquiry bail allows an individual to remain out of custody while an investigation continues, subject to any applicable conditions. It does not amount to a conviction or establish that an offence has been committed.
The investigation is expected to continue as EOCO gathers evidence and interviews relevant individuals. Any further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry and the evidence available to the authorities.
Darko’s appearance before EOCO and the granting of enquiry bail should therefore be understood within the context of an ongoing investigation, rather than as proof of wrongdoing.
