Martin Alamisi Burnes Kaiser Amidu, Ghana’s Special Prosecutor has been asked to halt the needless epistles like the biblical Apostle Paul and get to work by prosecuting persons who have embezzled state funds running to hundreds of millions of Ghana Cedis.

North East Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sulley Sambian has observed that Mr. Amidu is now gaining notoriety in writing what he described as a needless litany of epistles lamenting when he has his desk piled up with work.

“Quite frankly the excuses from Amidu are becoming one too many. I think it’s time to stop writing epistles like Apostle Paul and get the job done. I know Mr Amidu has a tough skin and very independently minded”, he revealed on a Tamale-based radio station monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

The private legal practitioner is of the opinion that the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice was appointed by virtue of his record and not to continually be advancing excuses following his inability to deliver on his mandate to the Ghanaian people.

“I am sure the president got him on this job because he knew nobody could influence him. By this, the president is demonstrating a real and not a cosmetic attempt at fighting corruption. We are guided by the fact that corruption and incompetence were basically the reasons Ghanaians voted Mr Mahama and the NDC out of power. We will not repeat the same mistakes”, he warned.

Mr Amidu in his latest article this week claimed heads of institutions are making his work as the Special Prosecutor difficult.

“Unfortunately, the experience of the Office of the Special Prosecutor is that when it comes to fighting corruptions and corruption-related offences, heads of institutions think that the rules on interdiction and/or indefinite leave of public officers do not apply to corruption and corruption-related offences.

Public officers have been charged, arraigned before the High Court and their pleas taken only for them to return to their work places and work normally as though they have never been suspected of committing any corruption offences”, he observed.
