Mr. Michael Chefaal, a 28-year-old, a security guard at the Yeji branch of the Brong Ahafo Catholic Cooperative Society for Development (BACCSOD), was last weekend gruesomely murdered within the banking hall by unknown assailant(s).

The incident which is believed to have occurred midnight was not noticed until about 7:00 am the following day when the staff of the bank arrived for work.

The vibrant security man who would normally stay up to open the doors of the bank for work to start in the morning, was not available when the staff arrived.

Calls placed on his two telephone lines failed to connect as all the doors of the bank were locked but bloodstains could be seen through the glass doors of the bank.

This immediately raised suspicion and fear among the staff.

The strange happening was reported to the Police in Yeji and on their arrival, they found Mr. Chefaal dead in a large pool of blood.

The Police who confirmed the incident to MyNewsGh.com, revealed that the deceased was stabbed several times in the chest.

All property of the bank including cash was left intact further raising fears it could be a contract killing.

The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Sunyani visited the crime scene.

The Pru East District Police Command indicated that they are on a manhunt for the killers though no arrest has been made yet.

Meanwhile, this comes on back of several similar murders in the area amidst series of armed robberies on the Yeji-Atebubu stretch of the Yeji-Kumasi highway which is a daily occurrence.

Residents of the area have expressed serious reservations about the work of the police.

Meanwhile, our checks by MyNewsGh.com have revealed that despite the high crime rate in the area, the district is the most under-resourced in the region.

Mr. Chefaal’s mortal remains have since been deposited at the Mathias Catholic Hospital in Yeji.
